Chicago Lakefront Trail

Between Oak Beach (to the South) and the Lincoln Park Chess Pavilion (to the North) stretches a remarkable pathway. With a sparkling Lake Michigan on one side and the opulent Gold Coast on the other, taking this trail is, undoubtedly, one of the best ways for both tourists and locals to enjoy the city and all it has to offer. Though busiest in summer, the trail can be enjoyed year-round. From taking leisurely walks to exercising along the Lakefront, the weather doesn’t have to be perfect to enjoy this urban haven.

Plenty of superb restaurants and shops on each street corner dot the areas surrounding this scenic trail. For instance, each side of Division street is packed with perpetually packed taverns and bars, such as The Lodge and Hopsmith Tavern. On Oak Street, you can peruse store windows offering glimpses at the newest designs of brands like Kate Spade, Athleta, or Tom Ford.

In addition to its fantastic daily appeal, the walkway offers a number of special events.  Every year, on the 4th of July, individuals from around the world gather here to take in the breathtaking fireworks show that illuminates the summer sky in an inordinate number of hues and designs set to the majestic  tune of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. Soon thereafter, in the middle of August, hundreds of thousands flock to the trail to secure an excellent vantage point from which to watch the Air and Water Show. During this show, the booming sound of jets flying overhead vibrates across the water as the parachute teams and daredevil pilots perform the most dangerous and breathtaking maneuvers.

Whether you have your legs dangling in the clear lake, walking down the trail, or window shopping on Oak Street, there is no better place to breathe in such a lively and dynamic city, no matter the occasion!
