Barry’s Bootcamp was born in 1998, when celebrity trainer Barry Jay changed the fitness game. Though its origins are in West Hollywood, Barry’s Bootcamp quickly spread across the country–and even the world! Chicago got its first studio in 2016.
For me, the thrill lies in the dozens of people around you sweating it out with determination. You feel your body enter another realm as the instructor runs your way, clapping and screaming encouragement. Red lights surround you, and your heart pounds quicker as you fall into rhythm with the music pouring out of the speakers.
Half of the 60-minute class is spent on the treadmill; the other half is done on the floor with both body-weight and dumbbell exercises. This workout provides a great mixture of cardio and strength training. Hundreds of calories later, I wondered exactly how the past hour flew by so fast!
Behold! When you walk out of the studio after your sweat-sesh, there is a delicious Smoothie Bar serving up concoctions to help replenish your thirst and aid in muscle recovery. Pro tip: order before class and your drink will be waiting for you once class finishes.
Barry’s Bootcamp gives you the choice of buying packages covering one to 50 classes at a time. If you’re ready for a commitment, you decide how many classes you would like to attend per 30 days. Full details on the packages and how to register can be found here.
Barry’s Bootcamp will get you well on your way to a stronger body and enhanced well-being. There are currently two Chicago locations: River North and Lincoln Park.
